Senator Jim Burgin (R-District 12) Harnett, Johnston and Lee

Jim Burgin is the North Carolina State Senator representing District 12: Harnett, Johnston and Lee counties. Before joining the General Assembly in 2019, Senator Burgin served two terms as a Harnett County Commissioner with three years as Chairman. In his professional life, Senator Burgin is President / Owner of C&D Insurance and Insurance Network Group, Chairman of the Board of New Horizon Insurance Group and President of B.C. Property Inc. He is also a partner of John Hiester Automotive, which owns Chevrolet and Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealerships. He was born in Knoxville Tennessee, attended The University of Tennessee Knoxville and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Senator Burgin has been active and involved in the community. He is an Elder and served as Sunday school teacher and Life group leader at Crossroads Baptist Church. He serves as a board member and Vice Chair for Central Carolina Community College and a board member for First Bank. He has previously served as a Board Member for North Carolina Association of County Commissioners and Board Member and Chief Elected Official for Triangle Workforce Development. In addition, he previously served as President for: Lillington Chamber of Commerce, Angier Chamber of Commerce, Angier Kiwanis club, Buies Creek PTG, Harnett Central Middle School PTG and Agents Council Main Street America Group.

Senator Burgin was appointed by Governor McCory to the State Health Coordinating Council 2015 and the State Retirement Board 2016.

The awards and honors Senator Burgin has received include: The Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor McCory 2016; M.H. “Jack” Brock Memorial Award; Business of the Year; Agency of the Year; Angier Chamber Man of the Year; two time Kiwanis Man of the Year; and 2020 Addiction Professionals of North Carolina Legislative Leadership, in recognition of his fight for social justice in our communities and the SUD field.

Senator Burgin and his wife are long time Harnett County residents and have been married for forty years. They have three children and four grandchildren.
