National Association of Social Workers (NASW)

The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest professional association of social workers in the world. As the only organization dedicated to advocating for the entire profession of social work, NASW strengthens the social work profession and gives social workers and clients a stronger voice.

WHAT IS SOCIAL WORK?

Social work is the largest behavioral health profession in the United States. The profession of social work seeks to improve the quality of life for individuals and to effect system-wide change through the pursuit of social justice. Social work seeks to help people overcome some of life’s most difficult challenges, especially the most vulnerable.

WHO ARE SOCIAL WORKERS?

There are over 25,000 degreed professional social workers in the state of North Carolina, 15,000 of whom are licensed to provide clinical mental health services. Social workers are professionals who have graduated from an accredited social work program at the bachelor, master or doctoral level. They provide individual, family and group counseling, case management services connecting clients with resources and service providers, and other services to empower clients to meet their own needs.
